New ROV Habitat Assessment Paper Published!

We are delighted to announce the publication of our newest paper which investigates the utilisation of North Sea Oil and Gas (O&G) installations by fish and invertebrate communities using data collected using Remote Operated Vehicles (ROV).

The abundance of life coupled with observations of organisms using installations as vectors for reproduction, notably the first reported use of an anthropogenic structure for C. lumpus brooding, demonstrates potential ecological benefit from the implementation of a rigs-to-reefs decommissioning regime (possibly with implications for fisheries, ecotourism, and biodiversity) within the North Sea.

We hope to conduct comparable studies on subsea infrastructure in different geographical locations to help reinforce this theory, develop a universal assessments methodology and to formulate decommissioning strategies with the greatest ecological benefit.
